The Quiet Heart

There is a hymn published in the LDS hymnbook that gives me pause and makes me think. It puts things into perspective, but one of the things I love most about it is the line "in the quiet heart is hidden sorrows that the eye can't see." It helps me remember everyone I see around me, that guy on the bus, or the little girl next door, or the daily service of my mother, has a story. Everyone has a story, and every person unique challenges and tragedies as well as personalities and souls. We have old souls. Sometimes when I have spare time, I think about the challenges of life, and I remember people who've overcome trials or how I've dealt with trials, or I think about people in the books I love so much and how they rose above their circumstances and triumphed.

That's what will happen to us in the end. The battle has already been decided. "And God shall wipe away all tears from their eyes; and there shall be no more death, neither sorrow, nor crying, neither shall there be any more pain: for the former things are passed away." Revelation 21:4

Who am I to judge another
When I walk imperfectly?
In the quiet heart is hidden
Sorrow that the eye can’t see.
Who am I to judge another?
Lord, I would follow thee.
